I loved this so much! You shared it so well. Many years ago when my first born (now 14) was just a babe in arms I limped through a season of feeling purposeless (outside of motherhood). I had traveled and been in missions and worked full time and then became a mom and we went through some life changes with church and being in a town we didn't love and a church we weren't settled in. But I know that in that season when door after door closed to us, the Lord said "I called you here, to this community and this town. And I'm putting you in a church I want you to dig into to. This is your mission field. Start with loving the neighbors on your street." 14 years later we are in the same town, the same house. We love this community so deeply. We love our church. And our passion is to love the Lord and love our neighbors well. All the rest is just tools to do these things. And now - plot twist- the Lord has called us to a new country and a new town and a new neighborhood and our #1 goal is to love those new neighbors.

Hillarey, you are a wonderful testimony! I need to hear stories like yours, stories where real people say "Yes Lord! Ok!" You did and what a blessing you have been. And now... new country???? (I think there is a story here!) I will pray for your new calling in your new community. Blessings to you and yours!

Thanks for this very helpful and encouraging guide to thinking through calling and purpose. I plan to sit down with your categories to pray through where the Lord has me in the coming season.

I'm glad you found it helpful. Our seasons don't seem to be getting any less busy, just busy differently! 😊

I am trying right now, to think through my communities.

Family, under my roof and extended

Church (a newer one for us.)

Neighborhood/town. (I am less connected here)

Work and cowokers

Several creative communities

(With different ones for photography/poetry)

I think it's fascinating that my son-in-law has chosen to combine photography with church and is currently doing portraits of their musicians. Meanwhile, my daughter (his wife) is drawing her way around town while she explores neighborhoods with an artist friend. Beautiful junctures. I wonder what your combinations might look like?
